Emerald and Diamond Pendant Necklace in Silver-Topped Gold, mid-century European in the Late Victorian Period/early Edwardian style

A finely crafted mid-century emerald and diamond pendant dating to the style of late Victorian/Early Edwardian period, executed in silver-topped gold and designed with an intricately pierced openwork frame.

The pendant is set with an attractive arrangement of mixed-cut emeralds, including square, round and pear shapes, centred by a square emerald and surrounded by numerous old-style round brilliant cut diamonds (Est. VS-VVS, H-I-J-M Colours)   The overall composition forms a richly decorative floral design, characteristic of Continental European jewellery of the late 19th century, with this being a mid-century revival piece.

The silver-topped front allowed diamonds to be set in white metal to enhance their brilliance, while the reverse is backed in gold, consistent with period construction. The hand-pierced detailing to the back further supports its late Victorian origin and hand-finished manufacture.

Measuring approximately 4 cm in length, the pendant is suspended from a later 18-carat yellow gold box-link chain, stamped 750, added for ease of wear. The chain is a sympathetic later replacement and complements the pendant without detracting from its historical integrity.
