Antique Opal & Diamond Pendant-Brooch — c.1900
English Mount, Australian Opal

A rare late-Victorian to early-Edwardian jewel, combining a superb Australian opal with the refined craftsmanship of an English silver-and-gold mount, circa 1900. The centrepiece is a claw-set oval cabochon opal, alive with a remarkable play of colour — dominant reds and oranges flashing through layers of green and electric blue. The stone is semi-opaque and beautifully lit from behind through its open-back setting, allowing every shift of light to animate the surface.

Surrounding the opal are four trefoil clusters, each set with three old-cut diamonds. Together they total approximately 0.95 carats, adding classic antique brilliance and framing the opal with a crisp, elegant rhythm.

The piece is fitted with both a brooch pin and a pendant loop, giving full flexibility: wear it as a statement brooch or suspend it from a chain as a striking pendant. The mount is crafted in silver and gold, typical of high-quality jewellery from this period, balancing strength, brightness and warmth.
• Measurements: 3.6 × 3.1 cm
• Weight: 6 g
• Origin: Made in England; Australian opal

Please note: opals are notoriously difficult to photograph. This one is especially dynamic — the colours shift boldly under different lighting, from natural daylight to electric evening light. Its ability to transform is part of its charm and a hallmark of a truly fine opal.

A beautiful and rare antique jewel with genuine character, refined detail and exceptional colour performance.
