Edwardian 18K Gold Opal & Old Mine Cut Diamond Crescent Brooch, circa 1900

An elegant late Victorian, early Edwardian crescent brooch crafted in 18 carat yellow gold, set with a graduated row of luminous natural opal cabochons interspersed with sparkling old cut diamonds.

Dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period, the brooch is designed as a finely tapered crescent measuring approximately 7.8cm in length. The graduated opals display exceptional play-of-colour, exhibiting vivid flashes of green, blue, orange and red across the length of the piece. The opals are beautifully complemented by a series of bright old mine and old European cut diamonds with an estimated combined weight of approximately 0.70 carats.

The crescent motif was one of the most celebrated jewellery designs of the Victorian era, symbolising growth, prosperity and new beginnings. Large examples of this quality and scale are increasingly difficult to source, particularly with such lively opals and well-preserved original character.

The brooch remains in very good antique condition with bright stones, strong colour play and excellent overall presentation. Equally striking worn traditionally as a brooch or displayed as part of a curated antique jewellery collection.
